Field Hockey Main Pitch | Football Stadium
Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG)
Morris Brown College
Atlanta, Georgia
This is a 15,000 seat stadium which hosted the first pitch field hockey events for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. After the Summer Olympics the field was converted back to football for the college. The original Herndon Stadium was the venue of choice for many African American entertainers who could only perform in non-white establishments in Atlanta.
The materials and articulation of finishes were inspired by the adjacent existing campus buildings. The stadium was part of the Atlanta University Center Promenade which provided the connectivity between the field hockey second pitch venue and the city of Atlanta pedestrian routes used by the great numbers of pedestrians traveling between venue sites.
